[UH-OH] Uncharted 3 Metascore Slipping, Batman Rising

Get this: Batman: Arkham City is overpowering Uncharted 3. How so? Beats the shit the out of me.

Batman stands at a (very) strong 97% with all 33 reviews being positive on the PS3, while the 360 version is at 95% with 67 reviews, all positive again, on Metacritic. Uncharted is at a 93% (55 reviews: 54 positive, 1 mixed). Batman has been rising rapidly over the course of the past two weeks, while Uncharted is actually dropping. I snapped that shot on Metacritic's site, showing Batman and Uncharted's scores, but there's also Battlefield 3 (90%) and Sonic Generations (77%).

In perspective, Batman: Arkham Asylum is at 92 and Uncharted 2 is at a 96. Neither series went through the dreaded Sophomore Slump, which is a damned good thing. Remember how Uncharted 2 was getting perfect scores left and right, earning 24 100% reviews in the first few weeks of it's release? Yea, UC3 has 15.

Of course, this is all meta-data, meaning take with a grain of salt. Batman is already proving to be a fantastic game, while Uncharted 3 will be a fantastic game. If 4 points of margin in the mid-90's percentile keeps you from buying Uncharted 3, turn in your PS3. And your card. I don't care what card it is, just turn it in; you don't deserve it.

Oh, and Zelda: Skyward Sword? It currently sits at a 99 with 2 reviews.

Goodbye, DualShock 3! Hello...Xbox Controller?

For ages, those who HATE the DualShock 3 - for a better term, let's use "absolutely fucking despise" - there's only been a few third-party solutions while we wait for Sony to revise their controller design from 15 years ago. You've got Nyko's Raven and Power A's PS3 Pro Elite, among a smorgasbord of bullshit that others think can do the Xbox controller justice. Power A's controller (above) has been deemed "the best PlayStation 3 controller right now, precisely because it's not shaped like a PS3 controller." Well said, Gizmodo. Well said.

For those who feel the Xbox 360 controller is the best controller on the market (this guy does, among many), the only solution we've had for actually using an Xbox controller on the PS3 was Ben Heck's sexy amalgamation that gutted the Xbox wireless controller, crammed in the DualShock 3's innards, sprinkled some magic and unicorn blood in it and got this wonderful beauty you see on your left.

This is, by far, the best option in terms of form and functionality (if you don't have the cunning, or cash, don't even bother). However, I lack the soldering/bread boarding skills that Ben has and the cash that anyone that's not working for retail has themselves.

I did, however, find this:

[HELP WANTED] I Need a Batman: Arkham City Case

I bought the Batman: Arkham City collector's edition, but the case? Fugetaboutit! They put the disc in the back of the fucking art book, and put all the DLC codes/cards in a drawer under the diorama.

I've already placed the insert/DLC codes in a spare green Xbox 360 case with the disc, but I need the artwork slip.

That's where you come in.

If any of the very few people that stroll through here see this and know where I can find one (no, eBay is of no help, and apparently, I can't post new threads on vgboxart.com), please let me know!

[UPDATED] Who Want's an Uncharted 3 Beta Code?

[UPDATED] Sorry folks, the code's been claimed!

I've got one, I'm not going to use it, so I'll give it to whoever wants it.

How will you get it? Like Destroyed Controller on Facebook, post on the wall, and I'll send it to the first person who does post.

How's that?

[EDITORIAL] Is The iPhone 4S Worth It?

So, it's come and gone: Apple has announced a new iPhone. It's not the 5 that everyone was flipping their shit over, but it's the 4S, akin to how Apple went from the 3G to the 3GS. They've kept the same physical design, but all the tweaks are under the hood.

Is what Apple crammed into the 4S worth the upgrade for those with a 4 already?

What about older iPhones?

Will the pressure of an non-subsidized price for those who signed up on Verizon earlier this year be strong enough to keep those from upgrading? Will it be enough to sway people to drop the cold hard cash on the ETF to switch carriers and plop down up to $400 on a new device just to get away from AT&T or Verizon?

I'm trying to convince myself that the 4S is not really worth the money, but hey, let's find out, shall we?

[HOW'D I DO?] Apple Announces New iPhone

Yes, this is Infinity Blade 2. Suck it.

Apple today announced the iPhone 4S. Last night, I laid out my predictions. How'd I fare?

Last-Minute (Read: 14 Hours Beforehand) Apple Conference Predictions

Apple's conference is tomorrow at 1PM EST, but no live stream. However, Engadget will be doing a liveblog of the entire event.

Here's my predictions for this "monumentous" event

  • iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 announced
  • 4S to be cheaper, smaller capacity iPhone with incredibly minute revisions, if at all
  • 5 to be for AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, with 4G LTE on V/S, one SKU for each carrier (meaning multi-band chip that works on CDMA/GSM/LTE; you could unlock one phone and use it across any carrier you choose)
  • Larger MP camera (8MP?)
  • Higher capacity (up to 64GB)
  • Wider homebutton
  • Larger device footprint, with larger screen, but keeping 4:3 ratio (like the EVO 4G)
  • 3GS to go free with 2-year contract
  • Jobs won't be there
  • Better speech recognition/integration (god I hope so)
  • Launches within 2 weeks, priced the same as the 4, if not cheaper
  • iOS 5 released before iPhone 5

If it's on Sprint with 4G, a larger capacity, better battery and a unified SKU as described above, fuck it, I just may pay AT&T's ETF just to go to Sprint.

Zelda: Skyward Sword's Facebook Page Reveals Zelda's Father...is Gaepora

No, you're not reading that wrong. The Facebook page for Skyward Sword just posted this image, stating it was Link's father from the game, with the name of Gaepora.

For those who don't remember or don't know, Gaebora is the name of that godforsaken owl that annoyed the hell out of you in Ocarina of Time, who constantly watched over you, giving you advice in some places, transporting you in others, all the while keeping an eye on you as you grew up.

The connection is immediately recognizable, as the eyebrows just sell it.

It's hard not to come to the conclusion that Gaepora is transformed/reincarnated into the owl Gaebora, albeit with that one little letter difference. Still, the theory is already running rampant in my mind:

Ghirahim turns Zelda's father into an owl - or, Gaepora has powers that allow him to transform into an owl, ala Animorphs - and is locked into that form. He is either a Phoenix in the respect that he can reincarnate himself, or he is an ever-living creature. Since SS is a prequel to OoT, Gaebora himself is reminded of Link from his time in Skyloft when he sees Link emerge from the Lost Woods. Doing his best to rescue the princess, who is named and looks strikingly similar to his own daughter, he helps Link on his journey to meet, assist and rescue Zelda.

Basically, he's got family issues in Ocarina, and helps Link help the princess who reminds him of his daughter.
